Steve comes from Ross-On-Wye, Herefordshire, England. He attended Hereford Art College from 2005 to 2008 and completed a National Diploma in General Art and Design. In 2012 he graduated from Cardiff College of Art and Design with a BA (Hons) in Ceramics. For his final show he produced a range of wheel thrown functional ware using high fired stoneware glazes. On completing his degree course his desire to further his ceramics skills and knowledge led him to successfully apply for the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland’s Ceramics Skills & Design Course in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. Here Steve was able to continue with his passion for pottery and be inspired to set up his own studio.
Steve is inspired by medieval English slipware and is fascinated by the level of skill that went into its making, both its throwing and spontaneous decoration, made by anonymous craftsmen, Steve is interested in how these pots would have been for everyday use. Working mainly on the potter’s wheel making strong robust shapes in a red earthenware clay, Steve applies coloured slips and uses different techniques to decorate his pot
